NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 30 – Results of experiments in Agouti yellow mice, a model of leptin resistance, show that lack diacylglycerol acyltransferase 1 (DGAT1) makes the animals resistant to diet-induced obesity. The finding appears in the April 15th issue of The Journal of Clinical Investigation.
In an interview with Reuters Health, lead author, Dr. Robert V. Farese, Jr., from the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, San Francisco, said that "inhibition of DGAT1, which is one of several enzymes involved in triglyceride synthesis, results in decreased levels of triglycerides in the adipose tissue and other tissues."
