Sinusitis Linked to Airway Inflammation in Severe Asthmatics

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 02 – The extent of sinus disease in patients with severe asthma is directly related to the degree of bronchial inflammation, according to a recent report by Dutch researchers. Such disease is also predictive of functional lung impairments.
The coexistence of chronic sinusitis and asthma is well documented, study author Dr. Elisabeth H. Bel, from Leiden University, and colleagues note. However, the relationship between upper and lower airway inflammation has remained unclear.
