NEW ORLEANS (Reuters Health) Apr 23 – A daily walk plus hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can restore the elasticity of older women's arteries to premenopausal levels, researchers reported here Monday at the annual Experimental Biology 2002 conference.
After 13 weeks of daily walking, the arterial elasticity in 60-year-old women receiving HRT was restored to levels seen in younger women; "you actually reversed the aging process," according to researcher Dr. Kerrie Moreau, of the University of Colorado in Boulder. She said the findings "could have a number of important implications for cardiovascular disease risk."
