NEW YORK (MedscapeWire) Apr 17 Although many studies at academic centers have demonstrated the benefit of percutaneous intervention (PCI) for acute myocardial infarction (MI), new research reported in the April 17 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that PCI is best even in a community setting without surgical backup.
"It should not be a matter of chance or geography that determines what kind of care a heart attack patient receives," lead author Thomas Aversano, MD, from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, says in a news release.
