SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters Health) Apr 09 – Treatment with the tyrosine kinase inhibitors PKI166 and STI571 can reduce bone metastases associated with prostate cancer and renal cancer, according to animal study findings presented this week at the 93rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in San Francisco.
Dr. Sun Jin Kim and colleagues, from The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, tested PKI166 and STI571 (Gleevec) in nude mice whose tibias were injected with human prostate cancer cells. Several drug regimens were tested including a combination of the two agents with paclitaxel and paclitaxel monotherapy.
