LONDON (Reuters) Apr 15 – Shares in Germany's Schering AG slipped 1.3% on Monday after Dutch concerns about its new oral contraceptive were raised in a medical journal.
The British Medical Journal on Friday reported the Dutch College of General Practitioners had advised GPs against using Yasmin until studies established whether it is as safe as other contraceptive pills.
Last year, a 17-year-old Dutch girl who had been taking Yasmin died from venous thrombosis. Although no direct link with the drug has been shown, there have now been 40 reported cases of venous thrombosis among women taking Yasmin in Europe, two of which have been fatal, the journal reported.
