NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 01 – Transfer of hepatitis B core antigen immunity in the course of bone marrow transplantation is associated with the resolution of chronic hepatitis B (HBV) infection in the recipient, according to a report in the March issue of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Nikolai V. Naoumov, from University College London, and colleagues studied eight BMT pairs in which the HLA-matched donor sibling had natural immunity to HBV and the recipient, being treated for hematologic malignancy, had chronic HBV infection.
