SAN FRANCISCO, CA — March 18, 2002 — Ultrasound and total neutrophil counts, but none of the commonly ordered liver function tests, showed statistically significant correlation to actual pathology obtained on surgery for acute cholecystitis.
Dr. Brian McCoy, of Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Caroline, described the results of a retrospective chart review here Saturday at the 8th Annual Scientific Assembly of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
For the study, the researchers culled the charts for 110 patients admitted to the emergency department who had a cholecystectomy during that admission from 1998 to 2000.
