NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 22 – A single dose of oral eletriptan (Relpax, Pfizer) provides prompt relief of moderate-to-severe acute migraine attacks, based on results of the latest study, a phase III, multicenter, placebo-controlled trial involving 1153 patients.
In the February issue of Cephalalgia, Dr. Richard Stark, of Alfred Hospital, Prahran, Australia, and the Eletriptan Steering Committee report that eletriptan has a rapid onset of action, providing headache relief often within 30 minutes.
Two hours after treatment, 62% of patients receiving 40 mg eletriptan and 65% receiving 80 mg eletriptan reported headache relief compared with 19% of those treated with placebo (p < 0.0001).
