Budesonide and Formoterol Have Synergistic Action in Asthma

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 26 – In vitro studies indicate that the long-acting beta-2 agonist formoterol and the inhaled glucocorticoid budesonide have more of an anti-inflammatory effect in combination than when used separately, according to Dutch researchers.
Dr. H. F. Kauffman and colleagues, of University Hospital Groningen, note that in asthma, adhesion molecules such as ICAM-1 and VCAM-1, expressed by fibroblasts, play an important role in airway inflammation.
