Mice vaccinated with live cells expressing prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) generate antibodies against PSMA-positive prostate tumors, an international research team has demonstrated. The team also reports evidence that vaccination with truncated PSMA can induce adaptive humoral immunity.
PSMA, a largely prostate-specific surface antigen, is upregulated almost 10-fold in most prostate tumors, Dr. Gabriel P. Haas, of the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, and colleagues explain in the International Journal of Cancer for November 20.
