Mutations in the BRCA2 gene, a known risk factor for breast and ovarian cancer in women, may also increase a man’s risk of developing prostate cancer, a British scientist said Wednesday.
Dr. Ros Eeles, a medical geneticist at The Institute of Cancer Research in southern, England, told a medical conference that men with an inherited defect in the BRCA2 gene are five to seven times more likely to develop prostate cancer than those without the fault.
