Researchers looking at five studies involving the investigational drug tadalafil concluded that the selective phosphodiesterase-type-5 inhibitor effectively treats erectile dysfunction.
The analysis included four studies that followed patients for 12 weeks and one study that described results after 24 weeks of treatment, said Serge Carrier, MD, assistant professor of urology at Jewish General Hospital, McGill University Health Center, in Montreal, Canada.
He presented the five-study analysis here September 3rd at the 24th annual congress of the European Society of Cardiology. The studies were conducted with researchers in Sydney, Australia, Taipei, Taiwan, with Eli Lilly & Company, in Indianapolis, and ICOS, in Bothell, Washington, United States. Tadalafil was administered at doses of 2.5 to 20 mg as needed up to once daily to 1,112 men.
