MOL 294, a small molecule inhibitor of redox-sensitive transcription factors NF-kappa-B and activator protein-1 (AP-1), blocks the airway inflammatory response to ovalbumin challenge in sensitized immunodeficient mice, researchers report in the November 1st issue of the Journal of Immunology.
Dr. William R. Henderson Jr of the University of Washington, Seattle, and colleagues note that the oxidative stress in the airways of asthmatics may lead to activation of these transcription factors.
