A brief self-management program aimed at patients hospitalized for acute asthma has helped to reduce morbidity and subsequent readmissions, Scottish researchers report in the October issue of Thorax.
Dr. Liesl M. Osman of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and colleagues note that “there is still debate over the benefit” of such programs. To investigate, the researchers randomized 280 patients who were admitted for acute asthma treatment over a 29-month period to standard care or to the self-management program.
