More Asthma Seen Among Women With Irregular Menstruation

Women with irregular menses are more likely than those with regular menses tWomen with irregular menses are more likely than those with regular menses to report symptoms of asthma, according to results of a study presented here this week at the European Respiratory Society’s 12th Annual Congress.

 Scandinavian researchers have found that young women with irregular menses had a 61% higher risk of developing asthma. “There are many causes of irregular menses, of which some may be unrelated and other strongly related to asthma,” presenting researcher Dr. Cecilie Svanes of Haukeland Hospital, Bergen, Norway, told meeting attendees.
