משחק המחשב- space inhalers -מלמד ילדים על אסתמה וההתמודדות עימה

— A computer game called Space Inhalers may help children understand asthma better and become more compliant with therapy, according to a presentation given Sept. 17 at the 12th Annual Congress of the European Respiratory Society held in Stockholm, Sweden. Other presentations at this meeting highlighted the need for better education about asthma treatment in affected children and their parents.

“Comparison of [children’s] knowledge before they played and after they had used the game for a month showed clearly that the game had benefits: the children who had played the game with the educational messages made considerably better progress than the others,” senior author Emma Baker, from St. George’s Hospital Medical School, in London, the U.K., says in a news release. In this randomized study of 36 children aged 7-11 with asthma, 17 (47%) of patients received educational software and 19 (53%) of patients received noneducational software for their personal computer.

During the computer game designed by the investigators, a beta-agonist inhaler spaceship destroys asthma triggers while steroid inhalers are used as protective shields. The control software used a similar game without the educational content.
