Reaction to stress, a feelings of vulnerability, as well as severe disease, are associated with near-fatal exacerbations of asthma, Canadian investigators report.
In a population-based, case-control study, Dr. Ian Mitchell, of the University of Calgary in Alberta, and colleagues compared 45 patients who experienced near-fatal asthma (NFA) episodes with 197 control patients treated for asthma in the emergency department (ED) and 303 asthmatic community control subjects (CC).
