Improved Delivery Leads To Lower Dose Corticosteroids For Asthmatic Children

Improved delivery of corticosteroids to the airways in asthmatic children allows maintenance of asthma control at a lower dose.

Extra-fine hydrofluoroalkane 134a-beclomethasone dipropionate (HFA-BDP) can be administered by a breath-activated device to provide long-term maintenance at approximately half the dose of traditional chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)-BDP.

 CFC-BDP is traditionally administered using a press-and-breathe metered dose inhaler and spacer (CFC-BDP+S). HFA-BDP is a new CFC-free formulation of BDP. BDP has been used effectively in both adult and paediatric asthma for a number of years.
