NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 30 – Pretreatment of atopic asthmatics with montelukast curbs bronchoconstriction brought about by challenge with adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP), UK researchers report in the April issue of Thorax.
Adenosine is an endogenous nucleoside, and lead investigator Dr. Steuart Rorke told Reuters Health, "we have shown that adenosine plays an important role in the pathophysiology of asthma, primarily through an interaction with the mast cell."
