NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 10 – The results of a crossover study indicate that the bronchodilatory effects of montelukast in asthmatics is not only dependent on a decrease in airway eosinophilia, but also results from an anti-inflammatory effect on the airway, Japanese researchers report.
Dr. Kenji Minoguchi, from Showa University, Tokyo, and colleagues treated 29 patients who had moderate to severe asthma with 10 mg montelukast or placebo once daily for two 4-week periods.
