NEW YORK, NY — March 3, 2002 — Fexofenadine rapidly decreases the symptoms of nasal congestion in patients with persistent allergic rhinitis due to dust mite allergy, according to the results of a pilot study released here today.
The data also show that this effect was maintained throughout the four-week study period, researchers reported at the 58th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI).
Fexofenadine is a non-sedating, non-impairing, long-acting antihistamine with high selectivity for the peripheral histamine H1-receptor. Clinical studies in over 6,000 patients have shown that fexofenadine provides safe and effective relief of the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
In the present study, Dr. G. Walter Canonica with the University of Genoa in Genoa, Italy, and associates analyzed results in 20 patients with persistent allergic rhinitis due to dust mite allergy who had been randomized to treatment with fexofenadine 180 mg or placebo once daily for 28 days…
