Human rights abuses continued unabated across the globe last year, typified by illegal executions, disappearances, torture and imprisonment without trial, Amnesty International said on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old rights watchdog said in its annual report for 2001 it had proof of illegal executions in 47 countries, disappearances in 35, torture in 111 and evidence of prisoners of conscience in 56–and that was just the beginning.
