– Supplementation with the amino acid taurine largely reverses the endothelial dysfunction seen in young adult smokers, according to a report published in the January 28th issue of Circulation. The mechanism appears to involve a modification of monocyte-endothelial interactions.
Previous reports have shown that taurine has a protective effect on endothelial structure and function. However, it was unclear if use of the amino acid could ameliorate the endothelial dysfunction that commonly occurs with chronic cigarette smoking.
