Emergent neuroimaging can be safely restricted to a small subset of well-appearing children who present with new onset, afebrile seizures, so long as the physician knows that the patient will continue to be followed, according to a new study conducted at Children’s Hospital in Boston.
Only patients with a condition that predisposes them to an intracranial lesion and children less than 33 months old with focal seizure need undergo CT or MRI, Dr. Sujit Sharma, currently with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, Georgia, and colleagues suggest in the January issue of Pediatrics.
