Maternal alcohol use, as well as how a baby is dressed for bed, influences the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) among Native American infants, according to a new report.
Specifically, the researchers found that children of mothers who drank alcohol around the time the baby was conceived or binge drank in the first trimester of pregnancy were more likely to die of SIDS. Clothing children in two or more layers at night was also linked to a higher SIDS risk.
