Peripheral thyroid hormones T3 and T4 as well as thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) are moderately elevated in obese children, according to a recent report. Weight reduction leads to a decrease in T3 and T4 levels, but not in TSH levels.
Dr. T. Reinehr and Dr. W. Andler, from the University of Witten-Herdecke in Datteln, Germany, measured T3, T4, TSH, and leptin levels in 118 obese children and in 107 healthy children of normal weight.
