Treatment with either biologic or synthetic secretin is no better than placebo at improving the symptoms of autism, according to a report published in the November issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child Adolescent Psychiatry.
The current findings are in agreement with a previous report that found no evidence that a single infusion of secretin improved autism symptoms. The new results, however, go further by showing that neither the biologic nor the synthetic form of secretin is effective.
