Education and house dust mite allergen reduction measures appear to reduce the incidence of dust mite sensitization in high-risk toddlers and preschoolers, researchers from the US and Europe report in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
Dr. Wilfried Karmaus of Michigan State University, East Lansing, and colleagues note that “the single best predictor for asthma,” is sensitivity to mite allergens. Such sensitivity is also seen in more than half of children with atopic eczema.
