Tolterodine is well tolerated in children with overactive bladder, and may provide a safe alternative therapy for those who cannot tolerate the side effects of oxybutynin, researchers noted here October 21 at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
Anticholinergic agents like oxybutynin chloride historically have been effective for treating overactive bladder, but are poorly tolerated, according to lead author Stephane Bolduc, MD, from the Division of Urology, The Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They reviewed 34 children who were followed for more than 12 months, and who
crossed over from oxybutynin to tolterodine due to side effects.
