NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 08 – A small study conducted in the UK refutes the claim of some parents that children become hyperactive or excitable after receiving a dose of the anti-asthma drug salbutamol (albuterol).
"It is commonly reported by parents of asthmatic children that treatment with nebulised salbutamol leads to restlessness and overactive behaviour," according to lead author Dr. I. Hadjikoumi of Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital in London, and colleagues. However, there have been no published studies examining the relationship between salbutamol and hyperactive behavior in children, the authors note.
