FDA Advisory Panel Backs Stair-Climbing Wheelchair

Johnson & Johnson on Wednesday won the backing of an advisory committee to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a high-tech wheelchair capable of climbing and descending stairs, traversing rough terrain and permitting eye-level conversations.

The panel of outside advisors voted to recommend clearance of the device, which will sell for about $29,000 if it receives the final go-ahead from the FDA.
