Most patients treated with pectoralis major transfer with fascia lata autograft augmentation for scapula winging can return to their preoperative level of activity, with minor adaptations. Mayo A. Noerdlinger, MD, at the Rush-Presbyterian-St Luke’s Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois, United States, and colleagues studied 15 patients who underwent pectoralis major transfer with a fascia lata autograft for scapular winging.
The patients, nine male and six female, ranged in age from 17 to 44 years. They were examined at a mean follow-up of 64 months following the surgical procedure. Pain reportedly decreased in 11 patients and function improved in 10 patients. Twelve patients said they would undergo the procedure again, the researchers noted.
