Biological fixation with femoral conical press-fit fixation is an effective method of patellar tendon fixation in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
Several methods of graft fixation have previously been described for bone-patellar tendon autografts in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Now, investigators from the Orthopedic Arthroscopic Surgery International in Milan, Italy, avoided the use of intra-articular hardware by adopting a method of conical press-fit femoral fixation.
They conducted a prospective study of 40 consecutive athletic patients who underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with conical press-fit fixation. All the procedures were performed by the same surgeon from 1994 to 1995.
