Corneal thickness and curvature as well as axial length show different relationships with intraocular pressure (IOP) than with pulse amplitude. Researchers from Aston University, Birmingham, England, enrolled into this cross-sectional study 23 male and 24 female volunteers with a mean age of 20.4 years.
The authors measured IOP, pulse amplitude, central corneal thickness, axial length and mean corneal radius in each volunteer’s right eye. Pulse amplitude and IOP were measured using the Ocular Blood Flow Analyser (OBFA) pneumatonometer. Mean IOP was 13.1 mmHg and the mean pulse amplitude was 3.0 mmHg. IOP measurements correlated with central corneal thickness.
Pulse amplitude correlated with mean corneal radius and axial length. Previous studies found that axial length correlated with corneal measurements. However, pulse amplitude did not correlate with corneal thickness.
