Vigabatrin Linked to Visual Field Abnormalities in High Proportion of Those Tested

NEW YORK (Reuters Health)-

More than 40% of patients who use the antiepileptic drug vigabatrin and are tested for visual field defects (VFDs) have visual field abnormalities, according to results of a British study published in the September issue of the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry.

The current findings support previous reports that have suggested a high rate of asymptomatic visual field abnormalities among users of the drug, study author Dr. A. Nicolson and colleagues, from The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool, UK, note.
