Adding Iressa (ZD1839) to standard platinum-based chemotherapy does not add any survival benefit for patients with non-small cell lung cancer, the drug’s manufacturer AstraZeneca reported on Monday.
Iressa is the first in a new class of cancer drugs known as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which cause fewer side effects by targeting a molecule that is over-expressed on tumour cells
