Despite an overall downturn in the risk of developing a solid tumor 25 years after successful treatment of Hodgkin’s disease (HD), long-term survivors remain at increased risk for cancer of the breast, esophagus, stomach and uterine cervix.
In the largest population-based study of HD patients to date, Dr. Gra a M Dores of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, and associates identified 32,591 patients reported to 16 cancer registries in North America and Europe between 1935 and 1994. Included were nearly 3000 patients followed for 20 years and more than 1100 followed for
25 years.
