Lose-dose oral etoposide appears to be safe and effective for treating refractory or progressed AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS).
Investigators from Harvard School of Public Health, Boston Medical Centre and Boston School of Medicine, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, conducted a phase II study on 36 patients with high-risk KS to assess the drug’s toxicity and efficacy.
Thirty-six patients who had relapsed or progressed after combination chemotherapy or anthracycline therapy were treated with oral etoposide at the 50 mg/d dosage for seven consecutive days of every two-week cycle.
