Positron emission tomography scans can help physicians predict whether preoperative chemotherapy will be successful in patients with gastric cancer, new research suggests. Thirty-five patients with locally advanced gastric carcinoma underwent PET scans with fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) at baseline and 14 days after the initiation of cis-platinum-based chemotherapy.
