SAN FRANCISCO, CA — April 10, 2002 — Researchers said they were encouraged with early results from Phase I clinical trials with the experimental compound S-8184, a vitamin E-based paclitaxel emulsion.
Dr. Gordon Brandt, MD, vice president for clinical and regulatory affairs at Sonus Pharmaceuticals, Bothell, Washington, said that 12 of 33 evaluable patients showed some clinical benefit when they were treated with S-8184.
"We are cautiously optimistic that this drug will turn into a useful treatment option," he said. The company sponsored the study, reported April 8th at the 93rd annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
