Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is recommended as the best method for differentiating in the diagnosis of soft tissue tumours, a Polish researcher reports.
The best method to make a differential diagnosis is to determine the coefficient of tissue enhancement rate should be expressed as percent per second (erc%/s), writes Malgorzata Tacikowska, of Institute of Oncology, in Warsaw, Poland.
He analysed the usefulness of dynamic MRI with determination of the coefficient of enhancement rate and the character of tumour enhancement in 45 patients. Of these, 30 patients had sarcomas and 15 had non-malignant lesions. Participants' age ranged from 16 to 64 years.
He calculated the sensitivity and specificity of MRI in the differentiation of malignant tumours and assessed contrast filling of the tumours in successive phases.
