Lipoprotein lipase polymorphisms could partly account for differences between individuals’ lipid and lipoprotein responses to overfeeding.
Researchers from the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, United States and centres in Finland and Canada, examined three polymorphisms (H1H1, H1H2, H2H2) of a gene (HIND III) encoding lipoprotein lipase. They enrolled 12 pairs of male monozygotic twins, who ate an extra 4.2MJ-1 per day energy surplus, for six days a week over 100 days.
