Experiments in mice indicate that melanocortin agonist therapy holds potential for the treatment of obesity, associated insulin resistance and diabetes.
Dr. Jeffrey S. Flier and colleagues at Harvard Medical School examined the effect of the synthetic cyclic heptapeptide MTII–a nonspecific melanocortin receptor agonist–in leptin-resistant mice susceptible to diet-induced obesity. Their findings appear in the May issue of Diabetes.
