NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 12 – New data from the Health Professionals Follow-up Study indicate that the total dietary intake of saturated fat is associated with an increased risk for type 2 diabetes, but the association is not independent of body mass index (BMI).
Dr. Frank B. Hu, from the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, and colleagues collected data on 42,504 men, 40 to 75 years of age in 1986, who participated in the study. At baseline these men were free of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
