In 70 percent of hypertensive patients on chronic dialysis, hypertension is either untreated (12 percent) or not adequately controlled with treatment (58 percent).
Rajiv Agarwal, MD, of Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, and colleagues from five US medical schools, assessed the prevalence, treatment and control of hypertension in a cohort of 2535 clinically stable haemodialysis patients. They presented results here November 3 at the 35th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Nephrology.
