Long-Term Outcome Favourable for Enalapril in Proteinuric IgA Nephropathy Patients

ACE inhibitors induce a long-term favourable influence in proteinuric IgA nephropathy patients and should be the first-line therapy for this group.

 Dr. Manuel Praga, lead investigator from Hospital 12 Octubre, Madrid, Spain, reported the findings here July 16 at the 39th annual Congress of the European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA).

Dr. Praga and colleagues followed a prospective protocol treatment in steroid- and immunosuppressant-naive patients with IgA nephropathy; all had proteinuria of more than 1 g/24 hours and serum creatinine (SCr) levels of less than 1.5 mg/dL. Blood pressure was not a factor in selection for the study.
