Some Molecular Prognostic Factors Correlate With Breast Microcalcifications

A high percentage of non-palpable, mammographically detected malignant-appearing microcalcifications exhibit HER-2/neu positivity but not Bcl-2 positivity, according to a report in the November 1st issue of the International Journal of Cancer.

“Malignant-appearing microcalcifications represent one of the earliest mammographic findings of non-palpable breast carcinomas,” Dr. Athanasios G. Papavassiliou and colleagues from the University of Patras, Greece, note. “Many studies have attempted to correlate radiological and histological features of malignant-appearing microcalcifications.”
