Vaginal Ring May Be an Effective New Method for Delivering HRT

Vaginal rings that deliver progesterone and estradiol may be a new method for giving hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and improving compliance, researchers report.

 “This study of a progesterone/estradiol vaginal ring in postmenopausal women showed that, when delivered vaginally, a progesterone dose yielding blood levels about half those encountered in the latter half of a normal menstrual period successfully prevented the endometrial proliferation frequency associated with the administration of an estrogen,” Dr. Harold A. Nash told Reuters Health.
