Twin Pregnancy With Hydatidiform Mole Can Be A Success

Women with a rare twin-pregnancy of one healthy fetus and one hydatidiform mole are at no more increased risk of malignant disease than women with the disorder who choose to have their pregnancy terminated.

Dr. Michael Seckl and colleagues at the Trophoblastic Disease Unit, Department of Cancer Medicine, Imperial College School of Medicine, London, England, evaluated 77 such twin pregnancies to establish the risks to the mother and baby of continuing the pregnancy compared with termination.

Clinicians point out that complete or partial hydatidiform moles (CHM or PHM) arise in about one in 1000 and three in 1000 pregnancies, respectively. These moles are premalignant conditions and early evacuation of the uterus is mandatory.
